Once Upon A Time …
by Michelle Maynard Koenig
Once upon a time there was a girl
who feared happiness
. . . now she laughs
who feared to speak
. . . now releases her voice
who feared imperfection
. . . now dances with truth
who feared death
. . . now trusts life
who feared love
. . . now introduces her soul to everyone
who feared tomorrow
. . . now welcomes today
who feared yesterday
. . . now recognizes its lessons
who feared the burden of doubt
. . . now soars on the wings of courage
Once upon a time there was a girl
who journeyed into her own;
nothing is ever as bad as it seems
nor is it as good as it can only be.
She finds the possible in the impossible
and life is like a dream.
Be Not A Slave To Anything
by Michelle Maynard Koenig
Be not a slave to anything:
fear,
thoughts,
notoriety,
being right,
wrong,
or of insatiable greed.
Within the Corinthians’ text of old,
I am allowed to do anything, I’m told,
Yet, not every indulgence, you see,
is conducive to nurturing the essence within me.
Attachment is the shackles that binds,
A mind, heart, and soul, it does blind,
“Be not a slave to anything,”
Is simply the song my soul doth sing.
Perspective
Through eyes of peace,
I see all life a gift.
Through eyes of fear,
I see myself captive.
Through eyes of forgiveness,
I see humanity soar.
Through eyes of anger,
I see darkness roar.
Through eyes of serenity,
I see the power of stillness.
Through eyes of intolerance,
I see with blindness.
Through eyes of shame,
I see not my purpose.
Through eyes of clarity,
I see honesty courageous.
Through eyes of hate,
I see the soul bleed.
Through eyes of love,
I find everything I need.

LIFE OUTSIDE MY COMPUTER
(by Michelle Maynard-Koenig)
Life outside my computer
is different, you see,
providing an opportunity
to inhale fresh air and breathe.
To engage in conversation,
face to face, side by side,
with people coming and going
and even passerbys.
Pay a visit to Mother Nature,
admire the beauty she radiates;
brushstrokes of trees, animals, flowers,
moon, stars, sky, and sun rays.
Life passes too quickly
for me to not take part,
to witness all I can
before it’s my time to depart.
Life outside my computer
is different, you see,
it’s the cornerstone of living
amid a universal masterpiece.
I BELIEVE …
I am often asked, “do you believe in God.” I respond:
I believe in a divine power that is greater than myself, whether his, her, or its name is “God,” “Jehova,” “Allah,” “Buddha,” etc., matters not to me.
I believe that I know that I do not know, but my human senses create a perception, a sensation, based upon my history of experiences.
I believe I am more than this shell of a body, that an essence exists within, a spirit, a soul, an energy that is more than this mortal mind can comprehend.
I believe that it is pretentious of me to think that the higher power only speaks English, only communicates with a certain sect of the human race, walks with two legs, or sits on a throne with a scepter in one hand, rendering punishment, or is the catalyst for the wins and losses of football games, or pulls the strings allowing John Doe to hit the big lottery.
“EVERYTHING is sacred from the largest mountain to the smallest plant and animal. A lesson can be found in all things and experiences and everything has a purpose. To sum up Native Spirituality; it is about HONOR, LOVE, and RESPECT. Not only do we love, honor, and respect our Creator and our Mother Earth, but also every living thing. It is about being in touch with ourselves and everything around us. It is about knowing and understanding that we are part of everything, and everything is a part of us. We are all One. Native American isnt blood; it is what is in the heart. The love for the land. The respect for it, those who inhabit it; and the respect and acknowledgement of the spirits and the elders. That is what it is to be indian.” (White Feather, Navajo Medicine Man)
I believe it is arrogant of me to think the cultures and traditions I was born into and raised with is superior to all other cultures, races, religions, traditions, and philosophies.
I believe it is egotistical of me to declare this planet, in and of itself, though just an ort smaller than a grain of sand in the endless vastness of the unknown Universe, holds preference to all the known and unknown planets and galaxies in the universe.
I believe in and look for the common string in all people, all religions, all philosophies, all sciences.
I believe in possibilities.
I believe in the freedom of each person to hold their own beliefs, travel their own life journey, make their own discoveries, while respecting the rights and freedom of others.
I believe in the reasoning of many teachings of many people, from the most notorious to the lowest of all classes, respecting the wisdom in all.
Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.” (Buddha)
I believe in you.
I believe in me.
I believe in Love.
I believe in existence.
I believe in peace.
A human being is part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. A kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. The true value of a human being is determined by the measure and the sense in which they have obtained liberation from the self. We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if humanity is to survive. (Albert Einstein, 1954)
I believe everything is possible and nothing is certain.
I believe.
LOVE IS THE ESSENCE OF ALL: FAIRYTALE OR FACT, YOU DECIDE
Once upon a time, a symmetrically whole being evolved called “Man”. Man was as a perfectly round circle. All of Man’s appendages and organs had corresponding duplicates facing each other, four hands, four legs, four ears, and two faces sharing one head in common. When formed together, it was perfect wholeness. Man lived in a two worlds simultaneously, the world of Becoming and the world of Being.
In the world of Becoming, all physical manifestations are defined through the senses of sight, smell, taste, hearing, and touch. It is a physical world; a world in constant movement and change.
In the world of Being, everything consists up of forms, ideas, and absoluteness. It is a world of freedom of transcendence. Though the world of Being never changes, it is the catalyst for the essentials of that which exists in the world of Becoming. The relationship between the two worlds is everything and nothing.
Man evolved in strength and vigor, eventually bringing about a formidable pride, an arrogance. Man became obsessed to rule both worlds, eventually attacking and destroying anything and everything that got in its way to “godship.”
And so Zeus, one of the gods, had an idea, “I think,” he said, “that I have found a way by which we can allow the human race to continue to exist and also put an end to their wickedness by making them weaker. I will cut each of them in two; in this way they will be weaker, and at the same time more profitable to us by being more numerous.”
Fast forward to today.
Consider. Humans have a dual nature of existence. We are a microcosm within the macrocosm. Love illuminates this longing to realize the divine within us and to help others realize their potential, as well. Love helps us to find a relationship between the two worlds we live in. Love is simply the name for Man’s desire and pursuit for wholeness, once again.
Consider. Humans are in constant movement searching for the meaning of life and love. As we ascend, we become closer to the absoluteness of the Divine through love’s prompting our own abilities to express, first on the physical plane, then on deeper layers via works of art, literature, music, relationships, to ourselves.
Consider. When we search for and recognize the divine in others, one discovers the divine in oneself. We come to recognize that, in all its forms, divinity is one and the same. A perfect circle of wholeness. It is absolute. Love is the world of Being providing the essence within the world of Becoming.
Plato’s, The Symposium, suggests that there is an internal mechanism through which Humans travel between both worlds. He shows how, through the powerful conduit of Love, Man can arrive at the highest apex of existence, an intuitive and mystical state of consciousness; an innate state of wholeness.
It is from this ancient story that we may consider the essence of the innate love human beings feel for one another. Love, which restores us to our ancient state by attempting to reuniting two halves into one. Love, which heals the wounds humanity suffers. The way to happiness for the Human race lies in honor and respect of Love; by returning to our original condition.
Consider.

I don’t need to spend a large amount of money for someone to instruct me on life. Life, in and of itself, is a free mentor. From Life, I receive excellent instruction on Happiness, Gratitude and Serenity, as well as Greed, Gluttony and Guise.
I find there is more to life than money, prestige and narcissistic power. May I always embrace its pureness of truth, trust and respect in the guidance of greatest COACH of all: Life. Taking ownership for my own life and responsibility for my own thoughts, words and actions is simply empowering!
A FRIEND, FREE OF CHARGE
A human being, am I
amid this Earth and Sky.
I am not perfect with all the answers,
as you, I am fallible and diverse.
But when I open to you in truth and honesty,
it may be the moment we find similarity.
The same goes for me, when I am in need
for direction, compassion, or validity.
Some charge for sharing with others
life lessons learned, loving or averse.
Incredulous as it may seem,
being a mentor or friend, one charges a fee.
Is there one right way
to live each and every day?
Or is it a dance,
you and I, by chance.
Live the best we can;
uplift each other, across all lands.
We are of love and light,
given to us freely with life.
All answers are within,
sometimes seen more clear by human reflection.
A mentor I may be,
to each person in need.
As what I give to the Universe
comes back to me to re-disperse.
To be quite honest, you don’t need me,
to tell you that you have the freedom to be.
I honor the place within you where the entire Universe resides;
I honor the place within you of love, of truth and light.
I am a Human, a Soul, a Friend at large,
completely free of charge.
A PEACEFUL NEW YEAR’S WISH FROM SMILED SOUL TO YOU
All of my life, Society told me that Peace is impossible, that it doesn’t exist and never will.
So I gave up my ammunition of fear. I put down my guns of hatred. And I tore up my flag of intolerance and said, “No.”
I said that Society is wrong. I broke free of my chains and flew! I became the dreamer, I became the beacon of hope; the embodiment of light and compassion that I know I was put here to be, just as we all are.
I made the conscious decision to love, and love alone. I now renounce bigotry. The hateful mentality of “Ego” has no place in my life any longer. I embrace you, your friends, your family; I embrace all of my brothers and sisters. We are ONE tribe. I’m here to say, never feel you are unloved. I love you! Even though I may not know you, I can say that because it’s what I feel in my heart.
On this day, New Years for some, New Years Eve for others, I say to you, Peace does exist! Peace CAN BE! It is inside of you and inside of me! When we know peace within ourselves, it WILL exist in the world and it will blossom! A light is shining through the darkness and LOVE will always prevail!
So let this year, 2012, be the year it was meant to be! Let it be a year of PEACE, of COMPASSION AND UNITY! Approach the new year with a new mentality of hope, not negativity! Now is the time for change! Let go of the past and the negative feelings holding you back and cross the divide into the light.
Peace is yours, peace is mine, peace is ours…if you want it!
Today, I wish you a beautiful, prosperous, healthy 2012! May its many coming changes renew you and may you emerge transformed; transformed into the beautiful beings of compassion and light we are all meant to be!
